The other day, my brilliant friend Christina asked her audience on Instagram to share their thoughts about the nature of “evil” and darkness in the world.
Lately, she’s observed what seems like distorted teachings around the concept of oneness - things like weaponized empathy and incompetence, willful ignorance, and the demonization and glorification of certain ideas, people, or trends... She was curious if others had been noticing similar things, and what their thoughts were.
Christina thought my responses were so different to what she’d heard previously on the topic, that she invited me to get on a live call to go deeper.
It turned out to be a really fun and expansive conversation - and I’m really glad we recorded it!
If you’re reading this, you probably already know that my worldview is informed by the work of Inelia Benz, Human Design and the Gene Keys, unschooling, and freebirth as expressions of conscious, radical sovereignty.
Christina and I both already live “outside the mainstream” in many ways (birth and education, for example).
That meant we were both able to share deeply + freely without worrying about whether we’d be able to vault typical thought-hurdles, like mainstream religious assumptions, or victim-consciousness-as-a-virtue.
Here’s a few points we got to talk about:
- Are these distorted teachings of oneness coming from a place of unconsciousness, or are they in some cases being distorted on purpose, i.e. “evil”?
- Does the word “evil” have a useful or practical place in our lives? Should it?
- Does believing that everything is connected mean that we’re in denial about suffering or tragedy in the world?
- “Nice girl” programming, religious dogma, and power-over-others dynamics
- Connecting with the wisdom of our physical bodies, and the audacity of choosing to be guided by our hearts
- How to hold space for conscious, loving relationships during polarizing, heavy times
- How Christina’s study of physical self-defense made her more compassionate toward others
- How to uphold our boundaries and invite our “challenging” loved ones to engage with us in radically loving, high-frequency ways
- We talk about the split we’re seeing in society, the light/dark paradigm, free will, manifesting, and the multiverse!
Listen to the whole thing here - or keep reading my expanded summary…
So much of the world wants to operate within cycles of duality - where we’re a victim, or we’re being painted as an aggressor. Another type of duality dynamic looks like powerful/powerless, savior/martyr - or even fear/anger. The truth is, there’s always a different, 3rd path available to us, which lets us make clear choices beyond the survival-impulse of fear, and allows us to get curious about whether we want to continue these types of us vs. them dynamics.
Fear, and specifically the fear of “evil”, is a great way to distance ourselves from things that we don’t want to acknowledge.
However, this also creates righteousness, which leads us to think of others in negative ways, instead of viewing them as fellow conscious beings who may be misguided or confused…but not “evil” per se.
Our life is not happening “to” us, it’s happening “for” us, with our agreement. Whether those agreements are mostly conscious or mostly on autopilot, is another matter!
In our convo, we discuss energetic hooks, manipulation, and “open doors” that can hijack us and prevent us from moving through the world with full consciousness and discernment.
We also discuss perspectives on the soul, the idea of wetiko (an infection or virus of consciousness), and our physical body as a precious ally - and not an electric meat-suit.
A fantastic article and follow-up to our convo is this one, by Inelia Benz, entitled The Nature of Darkness in Duality. If these types of discussion intrigue you, I recommend you subscribe to Inelia’s blog, as well as the second hour of her podcast.
Here’s a quote from her article:
Since I was very young, when others would tell me that there could be no light without dark, and that if we did not suffer we could not enjoy the good times… this belief felt…. WRONG.
I couldn’t agree more. This is not a “belief” but something that I know in my bones, before language or logic…
