Lately, I've been reviewing my own impact as a voice of the unschooling lifestyle.
The reach I've had (both intended and otherwise) with families who aspire to a more relationship-focused, less academically-oriented life with their kids has been surprisng and humbling.
Now - I'm a writer, and I aspire to clarity.
Interestingly enough, I grew up in a home that actively discouraged me to use my voice or "feel heard" - so I think that's WHY I became such a good writer.
It was the only mode of communication where my words weren't co-opted, interrupted, twisted, and ultimately used against me.
I make no secret of the fact that I have trauma in my past, and I would venture to say that many (if not most) of us who end up seeking an alternative to the status quo of parenting/education for our families do have their fair share of traumatic or un-wholesome past...or at the very least, things they don't wish to repeat with their own children.
