unschooling past the primary years (ages 5-10)

It seems like at every unschooling gathering, in every online group, the questions are mainly about kids from 5-10 years old.

Or even younger....which, pardon me, isn't really UNschooling if they're not yet OF schooling age. But I digress.

So, does unschooling only apply between the ages of 5 and 10?

Do we bump into the age where their schooled peers are doing pre-algebra, and then freak out about our kids' assumed ‘inadequacy’ and hasten to put them in school?

Does it have to do with the pervasive media in our kids' lives, telling them how everything revolves around school … so they end up asking to go just to try it?

People seem to imagine that homeschooled kids have some social deficiency that only school can cure.

In my teens' experience, they find the grand majority of their schooled peers to be superficial and obsessed with things they find irrelevant...whether that's what's going to happen on the latest TV show or what college they want to get into.

True, the media is pushing the school agenda, and it's unavoidable...but also, most unschooled kids are aware that it's an agenda.
