Human Design profiles explained
When I was in the flow of transmission for downloading my Holographic Self course, I really wanted to share a clever and relatable way of explaining Profile in Human Design. Our Profile is like a costume we wear - our outward character or 'avatar' in the video game of life!
I often see movie or TV characters thru the lens of Human Design, and while I was watching shows with my kids - it came to me all of a sudden…
The characters of Avatar the Last Airbender and also, of the Harry Potter universe are so relatable to me because they mirror the Profiles in Human Design!
I grabbed a notebook and started outlining my impressions of each character in both fandoms, and before I knew it, I had a great way to explain Profile.
Many of my favorite characters already remind me of dear friends and family whose Human Design I’m familiar with - for instance, my son with a 1/3 Profile, who we’ve always joked was like Sokka from Avatar - so it just made sense on multiple levels!
Profile: the basics…
There are 12 Profile expressions in all (not every number combo is possible). The first number, or line, of our profile is conscious, while the second is unconscious.

Where do I find my Human Design Profile?
» If you don’t already have your Human Design chart, you can get one for free via Genetic Matrix, My Bodygraph, or many other free sites online.
If your Human Design chart doesn’t explicitly tell you your Profile, here’s how to find it on any chart: Black always comes first because it’s the conscious profile line - while the red will always be second, and unconscious.
Next, read on to discover whether your Profile is best represented by a character in Harry Potter OR Avatar the Last Airbender.
» It just so happened that 6 of the 12 profiles seemed to fit best with the Avatar ‘gaang’, and 6 of them fit better in the ‘Potterverse’ - so if your profile doesn’t match your preferred fandom, I’m sorry! This is just my own interpretation, after all :)
The 1/3 Profile - Investigator / Experimenter - Sokka
The 1/3 is about security and stability. They seek a solid foundation above all, and feel very insecure without it. These folks are naturally curious - driven to find experts - to become experts themselves! They build strength thru mastery, and don't enjoy taking advice from others... This is because they're here to try it themselves and learn from experimenting.
1/3s can be excellent shapeshifters, especially when they are unsure of what their correct path is. Uncovering the truth (and skepticism) is a major theme for these folks, especially in relationship with others.
Sokka from Avatar the Last Airbender is a great representation of the 1/3 because he’s practical, detail-oriented, and the whole gaang looks up to him as the “idea guy”.
He’s a pro planner, he’s got the schedule dialed in and keeps the others accountable, and he’s got the craziest ideas that often end up saving the day. Sokka is detail-oriented, loves to feel secure and seeks knowledge to gain certainty. He is skeptical and down-to-earth, and prefers strength and facts over “spirit-y avatar stuff”!
The 2/4 Profile - Hermit / Networker - Aang
2/4s have a natural genius, and they're able to find allies and friends without trying - who often call them out to share the gifts they don’t usually realize they have.
2nd lines have a stubbornness that acts as a protective barrier from outside influences that might derail them! The 2 often wants to retreat, but they naturally attract attention from others while they enjoy doing their thing - while the 4 is well-supported and will find themselves with all they need, so long as they’re around the right people!
The 2/4 is a bit of a contradiction because they can be shy and withdrawn, yet they have a natural magnetism that has them surrounded by friends - and their friends are their power! 2/4s tend to get adopted by people who decide to befriend them.
Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender is a great example of the 2/4 because he’s able to float and breeze thru life with the support of his friends. He’s unassuming and modest about his talents, even though everyone is able to see them plainly - and he’s a natural peacemaker, making friends everywhere he goes - even seeing Zuko as a potential friend, despite his threats and chaotic history.
The 3/5 Profile - Experimenter / Heretic - Sirius Black
The 3/5 profile sometimes gets a bad wrap (the 3rd line is also known as the “martyr”) - but really, they’re brilliant idealists! These folks are here to try everything, shine light on what's not working, demand change, and shake things up.
The 3/5 is all about trial and error, and their unconventional solutions and fresh ideas often buck the status quo. The 3/5 is often generous toward causes and those they care about with their time and energy, often engineering radical new solutions and coming up with ideas.
The frequent judgments and expectations from others can make 3/5s feel jaded, like nothing they do works out as intended.
Sirius Black from Harry Potter is a fantastic representation of the 3/5 profile, because despite his most noble intentions of trying to protect the Potters, he was misunderstood and maligned as the betrayer! Undaunted, he made it his obsession and mission to protect Harry, even from a distance, despite what everyone thought of him. Sirius was dedicated and endlessly loyal, yet some (like Snape) never recognized his contributions.
The 6/2 Profile - Teacher / Hermit - Katara
The 6/2 is here to demonstrate what it means to live in alignment with their natural gifts, to show others what embodiment is all about. The objective 6/2 is trusting, sometimes naïve, and desires the best for everyone. 6th lines tend to see the bigger picture, and can be future-oriented and sometimes aloof.
6th line beings go thru three life stages, and until around age 30, life can feel very experimental - similar to a 3rd line’s journey!
From age 30-50 (between one’s Saturn return and Chiron return for the astrologers here) is a period of retreat, where the 6th line pulls back to heal, reflect, and make sense of it all. After this period of retreat, the 6th line finds themself being recognized as a natural role model, visionary, and master of their craft.
Katara from Avatar the Last Airbender is a great example of a 6/2 because she’s got innate talent as a waterbender, she’s idealistic and trusting, and even takes on the role of being “motherly” toward others (sometimes to their annoyance!). She’s not afraid to experiment, and her natural gifts shine brightest when they’re “activated” by the need to protect her friends.
The 4/6 Profile - Networker / Teacher - Ginny Weasley
The 4/6 is an influential agent of change, and needs to be around people who are loyal and loving, so that they may embody those qualities with ease. Building trust and thriving relationships takes commitment and time, so it’s crucial for the 4/6 to tend to their networks with care.
The right friendships, supportive family, and coworkers can elevate the 4th line into success, joy, and ease - yet being around folks who disparage you or (worse) don’t acknowledge you will diminish every aspect of the 4/6’s life.
The sensitive and cautious 4/6 may feel a pull to connect with others, yet also find themselves observing from a safe distance - a bit of a contradiction. 4th lines are uninterested in being changed by others (can be perceived as stubborn!), while the 6th line draws attention from others and is often perceived as a leader.
Ideally, the 4/6 becomes a charismatic role model of community, support, and love for all whom they connect with.
Ginny from Harry Potter represents the 4/6, because (despite what the movies show!) she’s unabashed, forceful, and magnetic. Ginny is the adored youngest sibling of 7, and this ‘first network’ of a loving family taught her how to navigate relationships with ease and integrity. She defends “Loony” Lovegood, and jumps at her chance to go to the Yule ball with Neville. The Quidditch team tryouts are an unruly mob that Harry can’t manage, but when Ginny yells, everyone listens.
The 5/1 Profile - Heretic / Investigator - Albus Dumbledore
The 5/1 is a natural and practical leader, whose observation skills allow them to know when and how to take charge. 5/1s can be enigmatic, hard for others to understand or ‘see clearly’ amidst all the projections of who others think they are.
The 5th line is perceived by others as the “fixer”, and thus, carries the weight of the world's expectations. The 5/1 knows how to solve problems, but often, their unconventional solutions can shock and upset others!
The 5/1’s reputation also suffers if their solutions don't work out. The social backlash that occurs next can feel like being “burned at the stake” - so they may be hesitant when others look to them as a savior! The 5/1 needs to be discerning about where their solutions will be well-received, and how to lead with expertise and skill.
Dumbledore from Harry Potter is a classic 5/1 representation - the reluctant leader whose accomplishments are larger than life. He was studious and exacting, driven to follow up on the smallest details, like others’ memories of Tom Riddle as a boy - or the testimony of a discarded house elf. As ‘the only wizard Voldemort ever feared’, Dumbledore is hailed as the singlehanded savior of the wizarding world (no pressure, right?—!). Dumbledore’s reputation suffers after his death, with many projections and stories spun to disparage him - yet in the end, his ‘heretical’ solutions are only viable because of Harry’s choice to trust in the paths he laid out.

FUN FACT - My family just happens to be almost exclusively made up of Avatar characters: Two Kataras, two Zukos, Sokka, and Aang. My husband is Dumbledore.
